I get so excited when the seed catalogs start arriving in January.  Although I do not order much from them, I enjoy looking at the pictures and dreaming about growing the best garden ever.  The one drawback is my growing space is only about 1000 square feet and mostly shade, so that poses some limitations.  However, I can still imagine and know that there are many great locally grown fruits and vegetables I can take advantage of.

Do you ever think about completely re-doing your house or a friend’s house?  Remodeling and redecorating are hot topics.  But what about completing a retro-fit for the purpose of making the new and improved home more energy efficient?  What about making it 50% more energy efficient?  Now, that is something I would love to see!  As it turns out, that’s exactly what visitors to the International Builder Show DID get to see last month in Orlando – it’s called the Cool Energy House!

Saint Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland, even though he was originally from Britain. He was captured by Irish raiders when he was 16 and for 6 years was forced to work as a lonely shepherd.  He escaped back to Britain and became a priest, then returned to Ireland to introduce Christianity.  It is believed he died March 17, 460, which came to be known as St. Patrick’s Day. Since then, symbols from folklore like shamrocks, leprechauns and the blarney stone have all become part of the tradition.
